► Academy Acres North, Bear Canyon West and the District 4 Coalition of Neighborhoods attended the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting December 17, 2013. Children’s Treatment Center had appealed the Zoning Hearing Officer’s decision in October to not allow Children Residential Homes (CRP) to be closer than 1500’. At the Board of Appeals Hearing December 17th the Board upheld the decision of the Zoning Hearing Officer and denied the requested variance. Children’s Treatment Center could have further appealed to the Land Use Board but time has expired for that appeal. Children’s Treatment Center will not be allowed to add three children to the Beck House. I want to especially thank Peter Nicholls and Wim Kramer as representatives of the D4C of Neighborhood for their support.

► Everyone is invited to an Open House welcoming the new Northeast Commander Dodi Comacho. The Open House is at the Command Center near Wyoming and Osuna January 29th  4:00 – 6:30 PM. RSVP to 796-1918. Light refreshments will be served along with a Station Walk-Through and a chance to meet area Officers and Command Staff.

► The Foothills Area Command will have the last open house Saturday, February 1st   from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM for viewing the large amount of recovered stolen property they are holding. The APD Foothills Substation is located at 12800 Lomas Blvd NE between Juan Tabo and Tramway.

To view property you will need to contact the front office staff at 332-5240 to make an appointment with Impact Detective Clipp. You will need the burglary police report case number when you make the appointment along with a copy of the police report. If you do not have the report asked the staff to print a copy for you when you make the appointment.

There will be no jewelry on display and you must have been burglarized after 2010 and before January 10, 2014.

► There is a VIN Etching event scheduled by the APD Auto Theft Unit. It will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM in the Smith’s Grocery Parking Lot 111 Coors Blvd. NW.

Use the CrimeView website to look up neighborhood crime.

APS is currently helping the 6000 homeless kids with clothes to attend classes. This task was previously handled by the volunteers of the Parent Teachers Clothing Bank which was dissolved. APS will take cash donations only for clothing.

Check in with the North Domingo Baca Mutigenerational Center for closings during February and March. They are having some plumbing work done along with the days for normal spring cleaning.

Bear Canyon Senior Center has reopened after renovations.

Councilor Winter reported there will be 2.0 million dollars in the APD budget for raises and recruiting new officers to the force.

► This will be my last year with the neighborhood association. At the end of 2014 I will have completed 10 years far more time than stipulated by our By Laws. I hope before December 31, 2014 a Board Member, Director or new volunteer will take up the task.  I have kept good records, we are financially solid and I will always be available to answer questions. This opportunity to serve was a great learning experience.

► I will be attending the Mayor Berry’s Presidents’ Form Saturday February 1st. If you have questions for any City Department let me know atabqaanna@gmail.com. I will get an answer for you.
