November 2014 Newsletter

► Academy Acres North Neighborhood Association has a new address:

                                    PO Box 90181

                                    Albuquerque, NM  87199

APD  Newsletters have resumed this month. I attached the November issue to this email. I noticed on the last page the Commander is Randy Remiker. I had not seen that name before.

► Everyone is invited to use the Phase 9 additions to the North Domingo Baca Park. Phase 9 consists of Tennis Courts, Handball Courts, Bocce Ball Courts, Outdoor Table Tennis and Wall Climbing. The park is adjacent to the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center at 7521 Carmel Ave. NE.

► We received Notice of Hearing for SCS Beverage Inc. for an application to transfer ownership and location of a Liquor License to 6201 San Antonio NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. Information or questions concerning this Liquor License can be obtained from Kyla Rhodes Stoker at 505-980-5614 or rhodeskyla@yahoo.com. I believe 6201 is the location of the Denny’s Restaurant.

► For information about upcoming VIN Etching Events contact Sharanne Press at 505- 823-4455 or spress@cabq.gov. Sharanne is our information and Public Safety Officer for the Northeast Area Command.

►Outdated or unused drugs can be dropped off in the lobby of the Northeast Command Center. Remove the medications from their containers such as bubble wrap, foil or labeled medication containers. Place the pills in a plastic bag for disposal. No liquids are accepted. Needles and syringes can be dropped off at any Fire Station. To make a SHARPS container use something like a used plastic milk jug and write SHARPS on the sides. Other Medical waste such as injectables, liquids, chemo waste, inhalers or any prescriptions on the EPA’s P or U list should dispose at the Metropolitan Forensic Science Center, 5350 2nd Street NW. Their phone number is 823-4200.

► We need a volunteer to fill the position of President on our Board of Directors. If you are interested in serving our neighborhood, leave a message for Jake Tellier at abqaanna@gmail.com or 821-0393.

►I wanted to pass along a safety tip that is almost too obvious to recognize. Keep your car’s door remote near your bed side, if needed in an emergency use the emergency button to sound your car horn. If you let your neighbors know this means trouble, help may be only a minute or two away. It is amazing to find the car remote will work from most locations inside your home. Do a test to see if the horn will sound off.

► This is a great time of the year to donate to your favorite charities including gifts of food to local food banks. Dog and cat food is also appreciated. Every donation no matter how small will help this holiday season. Have a great Thanksgiving.
